SM Malls now checking for Body Temperature at Entrances – March 2020

I passed by two SM Malls recently, and I noticed that the Security Guards were checking the Body Temperature of every person going in at the Entrances using non-contact Infra-Red (IR) Thermometers

This resulted in long lines at the entrances at some times when a lot of people are going it. This definitely is the result of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-2019) outbreak that has been slowly spreading around the world.

I asked one of the Guards what would happen if a person is found to have a high temperature, would they deny that person entry to the mall, then? The Guard said no, that they will refer the person to go into the Clinic, or something like that.

I’m not sure if that is true, but at any rate I think overall this is a good initiative on the part of the Mall to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and also at the same time give some visible assurance to the public that the Mall is trying to do something about the situation as crowded areas such as malls could be one area where the virus could spread and affect a lot of people.
