Here are what I think are the at least watchable to Best Series and Movies that I watched on Netflix for the Month of July 2025:
* Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel (2025) Documentary Movie – Outstanding, another Entertaining Installment in the “Trainwreck” Series which covers Scandals, Disasters and Tragedies in the Business, Leisure and Entertainment Industries, this one about the “American Apparel Incorporated” Clothing Retailer and its Founder, Dov Charney. This is a Company in the United States (US) which became very successful in the 2000s and 2010s, and while Dov helped brought success to the Company, his Eccentric and Egoistic Behavior also caused Problems for it. This Documentary was told mainly told by some of its former Employees, with a lot of Footages of Dov himself while at Work. Charney was eventually fired from the Company in the mid-2010s.
* The Old Guard 2 (2025) Movie – Better than Average, but not necessarily Great, this is an Action-Fantasy Movie about a Group of Immortal Soldiers or Warriors who now take Missions against Terrorists and Criminals to help Mankind. This is a Sequel to the first Old Guard Movie which was released back in 2020. That first Movie had a modest Budget but ended up as one of Netflix’s most watched Movies, and as a Result this Sequel was given a lot more Budget, and it shows.
The Production Values are much better, there are more Locations around the World and the Action Scenes are much more Elaborate and Expensive in Terms of the Items that were destroyed. This second Film also has some nice Twists, and as usual it was Charlize Theron who carried much of the Film. My only Issues were that some Plot Points were a bit convoluted and hard to follow, and just like the “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning” Movie, this one is a setup for a third Movie, so it feels a little bit incomplete. But overall, definitely entertaining enough to watch.
* The Sandman (2025) Season Two, Volume One – The Final Season Series – Outstanding, this is MUCH better than the first Season because the Pacing is a lot faster since it covered more Books in less Episodes. The first Season for Example covered only three Books in eleven Episodes, but in this first Part of Season Two alone they already covered around the same number of Books, but in just six Episodes.
To those who are not familiar with the Series, this is actually a Fantasy Comic Book on Fantasy by Neil Gaiman that was eventually collected into several Editions or “Books”. It is about the Entity named Morpheus who rules over the Realm of Dreams and his Siblings who also have their own Realms to rule. The Series won numerous Awards for its excellent Storytelling, Plot and Character Development and is generally considered on of the very Best Publications in the Fantasy Genre of all time. Season Two is more of a Direct Translation from the Book into the Screen, but better because they expanded the Scenes a bit at times and also explained the Plot Points better.
The Visuals are also different from the Books, it is more Adult-themed and closer to Reality. If you have read the Books and liked it, then this will likely just blow you away. If you haven’t read the Books, then this will hopefully be a grand Welcome for you into the Fantasy World of “The Sandman”.
* Countdown: Serrano vs. Taylor, A Sports Documentary (2025) Documentary Movie – Better than Average, but not Great, this is a Primer for the upcoming Boxing Match between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor for the Super Lightweight Title which will be broadcast Live on Netflix. Both are considered some of the greatest Boxers in the History of Female Boxing, this will be their third fight. The Documentary does a good Job of introducing both Fighters to casual Boxing Fans like me, it showed the Individual Histories of both Fighters, a look at their two previous Fights and the Preparations they are doing for the fight. Excellently voiced by Uma Thurman, Katie’s Irish Accent does make her hard to understand at times, forcing me to just turn on the English Subtitles for the rest of the Movie. If you are curious or excited about the upcoming Match between these two Boxers, then this is the Must-Watch ...
* Trainwreck: Balloon Boy (2025) Documentary Movie – Outstanding, another Episode in the “Trainwreck” Series on Netflix, this one about a Boy who supposedly ended up accidentally flying in a large, Saucer-shaped Balloon in Colorado in the United States (US), and the Media-frenzy it generated. I think the Best Thing about this Episode is that even after it finished, it is still hard for me to determine if the Family did indeed instigate the Hoax or not. The entire Family still denies it up to this Day, but both Parents were charged and Court and served Penalties for them. However, there are Arguments from both Sides that are somewhat Kind of compelling which made me still confused about their Innocence or not. Still a great Watch, as is expected in one of Netflix’s Best irregular Documentary Series.
* Amy Bradley is Missing (2025) Documentary Series – Outstanding, this is about a young, twenty-ish and attractive Woman from West Virginia in the United States (US) who went missing onboard a Cruise Ship in the Caribbean in 1998. What’s heartbreaking is how her Family after all these Years, almost three Decades later are still looking and hoping to be reunited with her. The Thing is though is that she may actually be still alive. Based on the Evidences presented in the Documentary, what seems to have happened was that she probably was drugged and smuggled off the Ship by a Syndicate, and turned into a Sex Slave. She ended up bearing Children, and they are now still being held hostage by the Syndicate in Barbados. Hopefully this Series will end up helping her finally get their Freedom.
* Untamed (2025) Series – Good enough to watch, this Series is about the Mystery surrounding the Death of a Young Woman at the Yosemite National Park in the United States (US), and the Quest of a Police Detective to try to solve it. It has some interesting Twists and a very nice Ending, the Characterizations were pretty good, and of course the Views around the National Park added to what makes the Series watchable. But the Pacing is a little bit too slow for me at times, even if it is only six Episodes. However, there was enough interesting Things going on enough for me to finish the Series.
* Happy Gilmore 2 (2025) Movie – Good enough to watch, this is the Sequel to Adam Sandler’s Hit Comedy Movie almost thirty Years ago back in 1996 called “Happy Gilmore”, and it’s about a Golfer who is able to hit long Drives due to his unconventional swing, thanks to his Hockey Background and Technique. This Sequel is able to capture some of the Silliness of the first Movie, but I felt that some Aspects of it sort of felt flat, like his four Sons who just aren’t funny enough to merit their time on the Screen. I also thought that the Rules of supposed new “Maxi-Golf” Game weren’t thought out very well.
There are a good Number of Laughs though, and a lot of Nostalgic Moments as they look back on some of the Cast Members of the Movie who had already passed away thru the Decades. A Number of good Cameos also, and it was good that they gave a lot more Screen Time to Ben Stiller who only had a Cameo in the first Movie. Again, not a great Sequel, but good enough to watch on Netflix.
* The Sandman (2025) Season Two, Volume Two – The Final Season Series – Better than average, but not Great as the Tale of “The Sandman” continues and finally ends on Netflix. I didn’t find it to be as compelling as the Volume One of the second and final Season, mainly because there were a couple of slow Spots, the Pacing was noticeably slower, I think mainly because they had to stretch only two Books in five Episodes. Still a fitting ending to one of Netflix’s big budgeted Fantasy Series.
* The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) Movie – Better than Average but not Great, the Story in the late 1800s and is about a Ship called the “Demeter” which unknowingly was transporting a Vampire from Romania to England, and of course a lot of Tragedy happened along the Way. I was familiar with the Story already since it was also featured in an Episode of the “Dracula” Series on Netflix several Years ago, but despite that the Movie was still able to bring in some nice Twists and Surprises of its own, and overall it is a fairly effective Supernatural Horror Thriller.
