Here are what I think are the at least watchable to Best Series and Movies that I watched on Netflix for the Month of August 2025:
* Strays (2023) Movie – Outstanding, this is an Animal Adventure-Comedy Movie about a Dog who had an abusive Owner who intentionally led him astray in a far away Place, so now he has to travel all the Way back to get back at his Owner, and meeting some Friends and having some Adventures along the Way. The Movie works very well because of the four Top Hollywood Comedians to voiced and gave Characters to the Dogs, namely Will Ferrell, Jamie Foxx, Isla Fisher and Randall Park. Some Parts of the Movie are a little bit too silly and a little bit too Adult themed at times, but there are plenty of Laughs. If you like Dogs or even Animals in General, then you will love this Film. Truly a Must-Watch Movie, one of the better ones this Year of 2025 on Netflix.
* Dog (2022) Movie – Good enough to watch, this is a Buddy Comedy Movie of two United States (US) Army Soldiers, a Man and a Belgian Mallinois Dog who had to go on a Road Trip Adventure to go to a scheduled Burial Session. If you are a Dog Lover, you will love this Movie. The Plot is Formulaic, and interestingly there wasn’t a lot of Chemistry between Channing Tatum and the Dog, it just sort of wasn’t there. But the Adventure Part and some Comedy Scenes is what made it work for me, and also August seems to be a slow Month for Netflix and there just wasn’t a lot of Good Stuff to watch.
* K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025) Animated Movie – Outstanding, I had no intention of watching this since it seems too Cheesy and too for Kids only based on the Title, but there was so much Buzz about it on TikTok that I decided to give it a try, and what a pleasant Surprise it turned out to be, I didn’t expect it to be just so damn good. I shouldn’t have doubted anything that comes out of the Creative Team that made the very successful and critically-acclaimed “Spider-Verse” Movie Franchise. This is about a Group of three Women Korean-Pop (K-Pop) Singers who also happen to be Demon Hunters and now has a to face a new Threat from the Demon World.
The Movie works because for one, the Animation is outstanding, the Characters are very expressive and the Visuals are beautiful and at times amazingly stunning, and there are also a lot of good Humor going around. The Action Scenes are just average, but the Plot has a Lot of nice Twists and the Pacing is pretty good. The Storyline is basically Korean-Drama (K-Drama), and the story telling are excellent. Most of the Songs are just average to me, but there are three that are really catchy and memorable for me, namely “Golden”, “Free” and “What It Sounds Like”. A Must-Watch, and one of the Best Movies of 2025 for me.
* Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser (2025) Limited Documentary Series – Outstanding, this is about the Reality Television (TV) Series that was quite Popular in the 2000s and 2010s where overweight Contestants compete against each other in a Training Camp to see who loses the most Weight and wins the Usd 250,000 Prize. The Show ran for 17 Seasons, and was so successful that it even got Spin-offs Worldwide including the Philippines. I didn’t really follow strictly this Series back then, but I did got to see a number of Episodes for several Seasons because it was showing almost everywhere then. This Documentary Series did a fantastic Job of summarizing some of the Issues that the Series had to deal with over the Years, as told by most of the People who were involved in the Series including the Contestants, Producers, Hosts, Trainers, etc. If you are familiar with “The Biggest Loser” Series, then this is a Must-Watch.
* Night Always Comes (2025) Movie – Outstanding, this is a Drama-Thriller about a Young Woman in the United States (US) who has to pay off a Debt in a short amount of time, forcing her get into Illegal Activities to get the Money. The Movie works because it has some nice and intense Twists. I suspect that this is just a low-Budget Vehicle for Vanessa Kirby to showcase her Acting Talents as she has been involved in a lot of big Budgeted Movies over the past several Years. Great to see Jennifer Jason Leigh again also, I haven’t seen much of her lately, but she used to be a big Name Movie Star in the 1980s and 1990s.
* Kill Tony: Mayhem at the Madison Square Garden (2025) Comedy Show Event – Outstanding, this is the first time I saw this Show, and I thought they had an excellent Premise, no wonder Netflix took the time to get the Rights to air this Event of theirs. The Premise is that the Show allow aspiring Comedians who have yet to get a big Break to give one minute Skits in front of a wide Audience. What makes this great is that if the Comedian bombs or doesn’t do well, then the Audience does not have to sit long to watch more of it. After the very short Skit, a Panel of big Name Comedians asks Question from the aspiring Comedians, allowing more opportunity for Laughs.
To make Things interesting, the Show also has Skits with what they call “Legends” which are more established Comedians who are already doing well who are allowed to do longer Skits if they want to, and does the same Interactions with the Panel. Most of these “Legends” are the ones who did well or got their big Break from previous Versions of the Show, which is basically like a Homecoming of sorts for them. This particular Event is well over two Hours long, but it is so engrossing to watch and there never a dull Moment. This is one of the Best new Concepts in Comedy that I have ever seen, I hope Netflix hosts more of their Shows in the near Future.
* The Thursday Murder Club (2025) Movie – Outstanding, this is a Movie about a Group of Elderly in an upper-class Home for the Aged who formed a Club to try solve Murders. Big Budget Murder Mystery Movies or Series almost always works for me, and this one is no exception. It was highly anticipated with its All-Star Cast of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingley, David Tenant, Tom Ellis and Jonathan Pryce, and at least it lived up to its expectations. The Mystery has some nice Plot Twists, and the Characterizations and Dialogue are excellent. There are some slow Spots, but overall the Pacing for me is pretty good. It’s not all about the Mystery and Murders though, the Movie also addresses the Problems related to aging like Dementia, etc. A great watch, one of the better Movies on Netflix for the Month of August 2025.
