Here are what I think are the at least watchable to Best Series and Movies that I watched on Netflix for the Month of January 2025:
* Knock at the Cabin (2023) Movie – Good enough to watch, but definitely not a Classic by Director M. Night Shymalan. This is basically an Apocalyptic type of Thriller about a Group of People in Contemporary Times who trap a Single Gender Family of three in the Woods in the hopes of stopping the End of World. I found the Premise to be a bit unrealistic, why would the Fate of Billions of People be left to the Actions of only a very few? Also the attempts at Humor in the Movie just seemed to fall flat on its Face. Watchable, but only if nothing else is around.
* Cunk on Life (2024) Movie – Outstanding, this is a Comedy parodying Documentary Movies and Series, and produced by no less than the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) itself who is known for making such Movies and Series. We see more of Dianne Morgan as “Filomena Cunk”, a Documentary Host who is now trying to tackle Philosophy. A lot of Jokes, most of them are pretty good, and the good ones are numerable enough to make this Movie a laugh riot. Not all of the Jokes work, of course, but luckily those are only a few, and overall I still found this Movie as pretty hilarious.
* Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever (2025) Documentary Movie – Outstanding, this is a Documentary Movie about the Centimillionaire Bryan Johnson who is using his Wealth to find Ways to extend his Lifespan, which resulted in him having a very regimented Lifestyle. He is also willing to use his Body to experiment on some new, Cutting Edge but still unproven Medications. He has also uploaded much of his current search for Life Extension on the Internet and on Social Media. I found the Show to be quite fascinating as it basically answered the Question, “What would you if you have a lot of Money, how would you go trying to extend your Lifespan?” Highly recommended, I think it is a fascinating Movie to watch.
* American Primeval (2025) Limited Series – Outstanding, for me the first great Series on Netflix for the Year 2025, and an Instant Classic, one of their Best Series ever. This is an Action-Adventure-Thriller about a Mother and her Son trying to get to a remote Western Town at a critical time in the West in mid 1800s when the Mormons, the United States (US) Government, the Pioneers and the American Indians are vying for control in an almost Free-for-All in that Area.
The Story is Fast Paced with some Interesting Twists and Turns, there is almost no dull Moment in the Series as something always seem to be happening onscreen. This one really does seem to capture just how Inhospitable and Dangerous the West was at that time. A Must Watch for me, and a great Way to start off the Year.
* Late Night with the Devil (2023) Movie – Outstanding, this is a Supernatural Horror Film set in the 1970s about a Television (TV) Late Night Show who ended up summoning a Demon during their (I assume) was its last Episode. Some interesting Twists, Backstories and Characters make this a very watchable Movie. The Demon that was finally revealed I thought really was unique and the stuff of Nightmares. One of the Must-Watch Movies on Netflix for January 2025.
* Black Sea (2014) Movie – Outstanding, this is an Adventure-Thriller set in Contemporary Times about a Commercial Submarine Captain who was hired to retrieve Gold Bars from a Nazi Submarine that sank during World War Two (WW2). I didn’t know much about this Movie before watching it, so I was very surprised at how good it was, and is definitely one of Jude Law’s Best Movies. It’s such as shame that it is so underrated. Much of the Conflict revolves around the Interactions of the Crew, and it goes to show how difficult it is to Form a Submarine Crew, you really need to have only certain Types of People with certain Personalities. There are some very nice Twists and suspense, and I love the Ending. A Must Watch for me.
* The Night Agent (2025) Season Two Series – Highly recommended, not as compelling as the first Season, but still good enough on its own. This Series is a Spy Thriller set in Contemporary Times about a Secret American Organization which in this Season is out to stop Terrorists from unleashing a Chemical Weapon in the United States (US). It’s a pretty standard and derivative Stuff of the Spy Genre, but the Showrunner of this Series, Shawn Murphy is a Veteran of other Law Enforcement and Military Series like “The Shield” and “The Unit” which were big Hits, so he knows which “Buttons” to push when it comes to this Genre.
